Basically, we want to extend the monitoring service offered by default in MDT. We have already monitoring capabilities out-of-the-box. Some people might be wondering why would you bother integrating DaRT into MDT infrastructure. We have explained how to create a bootable media that can be used to recover and troubleshoot Desktop issues.īy combining these two technologies, we could potentially improve our quality of services towards customers and end-users. We have also started speaking about MDOP 2014/2015 ( Desktop Optimization Pack – MDOP 2014/2015) which offers some tools aiming to optimize Desktop Management. We have been discussing MDT infrastructure for some time now and you can find previous post about that by checking the following link – ). In this post, we will explain how we could improve our MDT infrastructure by integrating DaRT tools into our MDT 2013 infrastructure. Some customers wants to start testing Windows 8.x and Windows 10 deployment using their current infrastructure and checking that a migration path or refresh path exists and works accordingly. This year we are expecting some activities related to deployment solutions since Windows 10 is on its way. To learn more about DaRT, have a look at Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset 10 - Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack and MDOP Information Experience - Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack. In case you are an IT Professional, then please consider creating a DaRT and have it ready in place and you will need it one day. Normally, we are using 64-bit and we need DaRT 64-bit, but for 32-bit version of Windows, you will need DaRT 32 bit. You also have to consider about the architecture of Windows. For example, DaRT 10 is for Windows 10 and Windows 11. However, you have to make sure you are using the right version of DaRT for the Windows. This tool would make you productive and helps you to identify and fix problem quicker. You could interact with menu and perform actions to repair your device. You will have to boot with DaRT and you will be presented with a menu with a nice GUI of troubleshooting tools. Instead of inserting Windows installation media, you may insert a DaRT and start troubleshooting. Let say, you are facing issue when Windows failed to boot, and you have to physically present and troubleshoot it. I always advise IT Professional to create a DaRT and have them in a USB and it will come handy one day. There you have set of valuable tools including something called DaRT. However, in case you are IT administrator for a large company, and you are Software Assurance customers, you do have access to set of tools known as Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP). However, there are cases where system failed to boot or start and then we need to perform other tasks and when everything failed, then we have to reinstall or repair the Windows. Whenever we are able to boot into the Windows, then it is good to go and we are able to perform steps to fix the system. In other cases, we are using third-party tools or system imaging to save the system. In the past we used to carry Windows installation media on a DVD or we are carrying it inside a USB and attempt to repair a system and if that failed, then reinstall Windows. In case you are in charge of administrating Windows devices, you will need a tool to help you to recover the system faster. However, there are cases where we have to be physically present in front of the device to repair the system. Sometimes, we might be able to solve the problem remotely and back everything to its right place. This is common to fail system failure in IT environment, no matter what platform or technology we are using, you will face problem of system failure and errors.
